Ethereum
Ether is a digital currency based on a unique software platform that allows users to register buy/sell transactions by means of smart contracts. A smart contract is an agreement between two parties in the form of a computer code.
The currency of the Ethereum platform is ether. The feature that sets ether apart from other cryptocurrencies is its frequent and rapid fluctuations. That is why this digital asset is actively traded on exchanges. Meanwhile, smart contracts make it possible to use ether in insurance, occasional payments, and partner transactions.
In addition, ethe is bitcoin’s main competitor: it is easy to purchase, it creates more opportunities, and it has good development prospects.
How does Ethereum work?
Ethereum is a platform designed to generate smart contracts. The network needs to keep track of the current information: the user's balance, the smart contract code, and the place where it is stored.
Smart contracts guarantee that after ethers are transferred to the specified user accounts, tokens will be credited. A token is a "substitute for securities" in the digital world. It is an entry on a blockchain distributed ledger.
How does Ethereum blockchain work?
The Ethereum blockchain is similar to Bitcoin’s. Miners are involved in the process. Owing to a special algorithm that requires the performance of computers and servers, the desired element is searched. When a block signature is found, a network participant receives a reward.
Ethereum's future
Ethereum developers intend to further support as many users as possible and improve the technology. The problem is that the platform’s limits and capabilities are still unknown. Due to a hard-coded limit on computation per block, the Ethereum blockchain currently supports about 15 transactions per second. As a comparison, Visa processes 45,000 transactions. This blockchain limitation is a topic of discussion among developers, especially in terms of scalability issues.
According to Vitalik Buterin, a Canadian-Russian programmer and founder of Ethereum, the cryptocurrency will increase transaction throughput. The developers keep on working on the long-awaited technology update and improving the security of transactions. They strive to ensure security and preserve great performance and high transaction speed at the same time.
Vitalik Buterin proposed to deploy other blockchains, like Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum Classic, as a new option for improving Ethereum’s scalability.
How to trade Ethereum
You can trade ether by means of cryptocurrency platforms and forex brokers. In the latter case, you will be able to trade ETH/USD along with assets like fiat currencies, CFDs on shares, and commodities.
