The capital of Austria, Vienna, has displaced the leader of the last seven years, Melbourne.

Vienna became the first European city to top the list. Experts created the rating assessing the city's comfort basing on such criteria as the level of health, stability, and security, the development of urban infrastructure, education and the cultural environment. After giving points on every criterion, the average value is calculated taking into account the weight of each indicator.

Vienna showed an almost perfect result, 99.1 points. All indicators were rated with the highest score, with the exception of culture and the environment.

According to analysts, the fact that the rating was headed by the European capital, can speak about the relative restoration of stability throughout Europe.

Melbourne, taking the second place, is only 0,7% behind Vienna. The Austrian capital became the leader thanks to its high stability.

The Japanese city of Osaka rose by six positions compared with last year's rating and occupied the third place.

In total, the rating has 140 cities.

The fourth place is held by Calgary, Canada.

The major world capitals did not even reach the top twenty, with the exception of Paris, which took 19th place. London got the 48th place, New York - 57th, Moscow ranked 68th in the list.

Sydney closes the top five most comfortable cities for the life.

Almost all cities from the top ten of the ranking are located in Australia and Canada, where the population density is 3.2 and 4 people per square meter, respectively. While, according to the World Bank, the world average is 5.8, and in the US it is 35.6.

The sixth place was given to Vancouver, Canada.

As analysts say, "global business centers tend to be victims of their own success." The growth in popularity among business people, which positively affects the economy, however, simultaneously puts an excessive burden on the transport system and raises the level of crime.

Another Canadian city, Toronto, holds the seventh place.

The eighth place belongs to the capital of Japan, Tokyo.

By the way, Japan and Austria recorded the lowest death rate in the world: 0.72 and 0.61 crimes per 100,000 people, respectively. For comparison, in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, the figure is 104 murders per 100,000 people.

The ninth place was awarded to Copenhagen, Denmark.

In addition, experts note that the security situation in several European cities has improved. The best results by this criterion were shown by Manchester, recovered after the terrorist attack in 2017, which rose 16 positions and took the 35th place.

The last place in the top 10 of the ranking is occupied by another Australian city, Adelaide.

The Syrian capital, Damascus, was recognized the worst in the list (the 140th place). The two penultimate places went to the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, and Nigeria's capital Lagos.
