George Bush Sr., president term: 1989-1993

The 41st president of the United States George Bush Sr. was among American leaders serving only one term. Under his watch, military operations were conducted in Panama, the Philippines and the Persian Gulf. Experts ascribe the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to George Bush’s contribution. On the domestic front, though, he broke his election promise and raised taxes. As a result, George Bush was unseated by Democrat Bill Clinton in 1993.

Jimmy Carter, president term: 1977-1981

Jimmy Carter is a representative of the Democratic Party who served as the 39th president of the US. Under his presidency the relationship between the Soviet Union and the US deteriorated and the Iran hostage crisis took place. However, the former head of the White House has projected an image of the person close to the people. He visited US country towns and met with the public. Carter served during the time of high interest rates and inflation in the US. As a result, he lost out to Republican President Ronald Reagan.

Gerald Ford, president term: August 1974 - January 1977

President Gerald Ford served right after Richard Nixon who gave up his power in 1974. He became the only American president who was never elected by the popular vote. His short presidency was marked by improvement in relations with the USSR. However, Gerald Ford served during a period of difficult domestic economic crisis compared to the Great Depression. Those events were against the president. Therefore, Ford lost the election to Democrat Jimmy Carter.

Herbert Hoover, president term: 1929-1933

At the beginning of the 20th century political history in the US, there were also presidents who did not stay in the office for the second term, such as Republican Herbert Hoover. Early in his presidency, Hoover created the Federal Farm Board and intended to carry out some reforms. However, after the Wall Street Crash in 1929, the Great Depression destroyed the president’s plans. By 1933, the industrial production in the country slumped by 50% from previous readings, and the unemployment rate was catastrophic. Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt won the next election.

William Howard Taft, president term: 1909-1913

Politician William Howard Taft was another US president serving only one term. His presidency was marked by the strengthening of the state role in the economy. Shortly before the presidential election, Franklin Roosevelt decided to run for president. However, the Republican Party nominated William Taft for a second term. In response, Roosevelt created the Progressive Party and became its presidential nominee. The result was unexpected. Both Roosevelt and Taft lost to Democrat Woodrow Wilson who became the next US president.
